What Lifecycle and Snapshot are for
Once a plan has been built and revised, with its decommissioning asset and depreciation in place, the focus shifts from building the numbers to reviewing them over time. The Lifecycle and Snapshot submodules support that review.
The Lifecycle financial summary
The Lifecycle financial summary shows how a plan's financials move across periods. It is intended for analysis rather than editing. At the account level, it looks and behaves as it does in ARO and ERO, so it will be familiar to anyone who has used those modules.
Cost, recovery, and net views
DRO adds a view type, which displays the summary as cost, recovery, or net. When no recovery has been added for a DRO asset, the net matches the cost, and there is nothing in recovery.
How Snapshot preserves a point in time
Snapshot is its own submodule in the left navigation. It preserves the financials as they stood at a specific point in time, which is valuable for period close, for budget baselines, and for showing an auditor exactly what the numbers looked like on a given date.
Snapshots in DRO behave the same way they do in ERO, including the budget version. A snapshot belongs to the module in which it is taken, so a snapshot taken in DRO captures DRO data. The snapshot rollup views carry the same DRO subtype filter, so a point-in-time position can also be reviewed by subtype.
When to use each area
Use Lifecycle and Snapshot to review and report, whether the goal is to analyze trends across periods or to preserve a point in time. Use Balance to see the current detailed provision and the plan behind it.
