Creating Analyte Alerts

This guide explains how to create an analyte alert in ENFOS. Analyte alerts notify you when laboratory data results exceed the criteria defined in your standard(s). A standard must exist before you can create an associated alert. See the Creating Data Standards article if you have not set up a standard yet.

Before You Begin

  • Alerts can only be created at the level in the hierarchy where data is assigned in settings (the site (level 17) or AOC (level 20)). You cannot create an alert at a higher level in the hierarchy.
  • A standard must already exist. The alert is tied to a specific standard.
  • To receive email alerts, your email notification setting must be enabled (see the last step below).

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Navigate to the site or AOC ( in the hierarchy. This is the level where data is assigned in settings, and it is the only level where an alert can be created.
  2. Navigate to Inventory > Scientific Data > Standards.
  3. Click Add in the Alerts section of the Standards page.
  4. Type a Name for the alert.
  5. Select a Standard from the dropdown menu in the top right corner of the screen.
  6. Choose alerts by checking the boxes next to the desired alerts.
  7. Choose an alert recipient by clicking Add Contact.
  8. Select the desired contact, then click Done.
  9. Click Save to create the new alert.
  10. To receive email alerts, navigate to Account > Preferences > Email Notification Settings and check the box for "A Data Analyte Alert goes out."

Common Questions

Why do I not receive email alerts? Confirm that the email notification setting is enabled. Navigate to Account > Preferences > Email Notification Settings and check the box for "A Data Analyte Alert goes out." If you still do not receive an alert, it may be getting caught in your company's IT spam filter. Contact your Data Administrator for assistance.

Do I need a standard before creating an alert? Yes. An alert must be associated with an existing standard. Create the standard first, then create the alert.

What triggers an alert? An alert is triggered when a laboratory data result exceeds the criteria defined in the standard the alert is tied to.
